Developer Indicted on Mortgage Fraud Charges

Bernardo Katz, a Mt. Lebanon developer who left behind a trail of unresolved lawsuits and pending mortgage foreclosures when he fled to Brazil, was indicted Tuesday on federal mortgage fraud conspiracy charges.

Katz, 49, and real estate attorney John L. Chaffo Jr., 49, of Murrysville, were named in a 15-count superseding indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh against former mortgage broker Michael Dokmanovich, 36, of Bethel Park.

The indictment accuses Dokmanovich and Chaffo with participating in two mortgage fraud conspiracies involving the submission of fraudulent loan applications and other documents, including appraisals. Read more about the mortgage fraud indictment
