Local housing counselors warn con artists are taking advantage of hard-hit homeowners. Alecia Easterling says it happened to her.
She and her husband got behind on mortgage payments after both their employers cut back their work hours. Alecia’s employer later laid her off.
She says she called her lender and tried to negotiate a loan modification herself. When that didn’t work, she paid $950 to a man promising a loan modification that would keep her out of foreclosure. Read more about fake foreclosure help…
