Joe Shalla, Vice President Sales

 

Joe Shalla enjoyed lifelong success as an executive in the auto industry before getting involved in mortgage financing.

 

He started at an early age at Don Cullough Chevrolet as a mail boy, parts-man at dealership while he attended college.  He soon joined the Marines and after his military duty ended, Joe joined Shalla Chevrolet where he became Fleet leasing Manager from 1967 until 1978.

 

Soon Shalla Chevrolet, with the assistance Mr. Shalla, became one of the largest dealers in the country by developing the dealership into the main supplier of Chevrolet’s to the fleet industry.

 

In 1978, Joe left the auto industry to become first Vice President PFO Financial Corporation, the Investment Banking arm of E.F. Hutton, until it was sold to Dean Witter, Morgan Stanley.  He held NASD Registration series 2,7 and 63.

 

In 1981, he then moved on to Birmingham Bancorp as Vice President Senior Loan Officer, where he stayed for fourteen years until he had the opportunity to acquire General Mortgage Corporation.  As CEO he managed and directed 70 employees including five executive staff members and oversaw account servicing in excess of $700 million annually.

 

Under his tenure as CEO/President, General Mortgage became an endorsed originator, seller and servicer for Fannie Mae, FHA, MSHDA and Ginnie Mae, commercial and non-conforming loans.

 

When General Mortgage dissolved in 2000, Joe worked as a Senior Mortgage Banker for Clarkston State Bank and as Senior Lender at Citizens First Bank in Farmington Hills, Michigan

 

He joined MFI-Miami in August of 2011.
