Running to Fight Off Foreclosure

November 2, 2009 by admin

Some people run away from their troubles. Shauna Vogt runs right at them.

She took up running to relieve the stress she felt after her husband lost his job in April. One night while jogging in her Hebron neighborhood, Vogt noticed the aftermath of an economy in severe distress. Hastily erected “for sale” signs had sprouted in front yards. Cars were being towed away. She wondered if the foreclosure nightmare had visited the families who lived in those houses and drove those cars.

Then she thought about helping “people dealing with all this debt and going through this awful thing called foreclosure.” She came up with an idea combining physical exercise with doing good deeds.

Vogt contacted her friend and fellow human resources consultant, Ann Toerner. The Harrison woman knew from recent, first-hand experience the pain of being laid off from a job she loved.

Together, they founded Angels on the Run 5K. The race takes place Saturday at Miami Whitewater Park in Harrison. All proceeds go to a yet-to-be-selected Greater Cincinnati family facing foreclosure. Read more about fighting foreclosure
